Music and Movement Warm Up for Marching Band

The Music and Movement warmup is designed to work with any size band and focuses on scales, technique, and marching fundamentals.

Field Placement – Bands should be arranged in 4×4 spacing with the front line on the home hash.   At one point in the drill, the front line will come as close to the sideline but no further.

Marching Fundamentals

• • Forward March
  • Backward March
  • Forward to Backward Transitions (Stab and Jab)
  • Backward to Forward Transitions (Rock and Roll)
  • Box Drill Right
  • Box Drill Left
  • Alignment
  • Traverse Marching
  • 8 to 5 and 6 to 5 transitions
  • Visuals including – Step Out, Lean Left, To the Box
  • Utilizes Front Hash, Top of Numbers and Sideline for Alignment

Music Fundamentals

• • Scales (Bb, Eb, Ab, F) using the Danger Note Method
  • Unison Tuning
  • Chorale
  • Chorale with Key Challenge (I-V)
  • Articulation Studies in Multiple Keys using the Danger Notes Method
  • Lip Slurs for Brass and Woodwind Long Tone
  • Simple Drumline Fundamentals to supplement their normal warmup routine
